Irreducible Elements of Good Teaching?

If you had to make a list of 5 essential ingredients to look for in a lesson as an supervisor or evaluator, what would be on your short list?

In collaboration with my peers in a class on supervision with Kim Marshall my group came up with:
  1. Feedback
  2. Environment
  3. Organization
  4. Expectations
  5. Enthusiasm
Kim Marshall's list was: (SOTEL)
  1. Safety
  2. Objectives
  3. Teaching
  4. Engagement
  5. Learning
Do you think there is a glaring oversight? Should something come off the list?  I liked Kim's safety since it included the comfort level and trust that the students and teacher have with each other to take risks and feel safe.

My Best,

Patrick Morrissey
