Usain Bolt of Jamaica WR from Beijing. Average speed of 34 feet per second! It seems like he is flying. See it in slow motion:
Notice in the first two seconds the slope of the line is less steep than the middle part of the run. It's hard to see, but the line in the last second does show that Bolt slows down in the last second or so. If you look at the graph below the slowing down in the last part of the race is more apparent. This graph below shoes Bolt's speed in feet per second. Bolt was able to sustain a 40 feet per second pace for almost 3 entire seconds in the second half of the race.
This chart above shows that at his fastest, Bolt was traveling 40 feet every second.That is 13 yards per second. Think of a football field...
